4 Tips for Dealing With the Insurance Company After a Car Crash

13-08-2019 by WebEditor Leave a Comment

A car crash can be the result of careless driving, or it may be due to weather conditions. Regardless of the circumstances, finding yourself involved in an accident is never ideal.

Do you know the process for filing a claim with the insurance company? Follow these four tips to help you get through what may seem like an impossible process.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Provide Pictures of the Vehicles and Scene
  • 2. Keep Notes When Speaking With Representatives
  • 3. Furnish Witness Information
  • 4. Remain Calm

1. Provide Pictures of the Vehicles and Scene

When you get in a vehicle accident town ‘n’ country florida, you must document the aftermath of the crash. The best way to do this is to take pictures of the scene and the cars as they came to rest. Once you determine that everyone is safe, start snapping away. Get photos of road signs, landmarks and any debris in the roadway. If there is a traffic control device, take a picture of where that is in relation to the vehicles. You should provide these photos to the insurance company upon their request. Photograph all damage to the vehicles involved.

2. Keep Notes When Speaking With Representatives

You may have numerous conversations with customer service and claim representatives at the insurance company. Keep a running log of the date and time you called, who you spoke with and the questions asked and answered. The rep may be following up on earlier conversations, or they may have some pertinent details related to your claim. No matter what the reason, a set of notes setting out your side of the conversations is critical.

3. Furnish Witness Information

With any luck, you were able to get some passersby who witnessed the accident to step forward and give you their information. People can be reluctant to share this information because they don’t want to get involved believing it will be a hassle for them. Ask politely for their best contact number and time the insurance company can call them and get their version of the crash. Getting this to the insurance adjuster may help prove fault.

4. Remain Calm

Dealing with the insurance company after a collision may be frustrating. You may have to answer the same questions multiple times to different people or even the same ones. Do not let this frustration come through to the representative, or it may take away from your credibility. Adjusters and reps can be very understanding, but a hostile tone will likely not go over well on their end.

Above all else, make sure you take care of yourself after an accident. Get checked by a doctor to ensure you did not suffer any injuries. If you did, open an injury claim with the insurance company, so you can get the treatment you need on their dime.
