How to Find Cheap Short Term Car Insurance

27-04-2018 by WebEditor Leave a Comment

If you plan to legally drive a motor vehicle in the United States, you need to have some form of car insurance. When you maintain coverage you are protecting yourself and your fellow drivers in the event of an accident.

In the event you are at fault for injury or damage to someone else’s property, your car insurance will cover many or even all of the costs that are related to the accident. Without proper, sufficient coverage you will be personally responsible for all of those costs, which could be astronomical depending on the severity of the crash.

Medical and rehabilitation costs, car repair bills, or even automobile replacement expenses can quickly wipe you out financially and if you are unable to pay these expenditures, you can find yourself in some significant trouble.

So it just makes good sense to find inexpensive insurance when compared to the alternative. But many drivers may not be fully aware of all their options when it comes to driving a car on a temporary basis.

Short Term Car Insurance

There are many different types of car insurance policies out there but among the least common is a short term or temporary policy. However, just because it’s lesser-known doesn’t mean it’s no less useful or imperative for your particular driving situation.

In fact, there is a whole range of reasons why you might need to look into getting short term car insurance. This type of policy comes in handy for those drivers who are operating an automobile that isn’t theirs, yet they want to remain properly covered in the event something happens.

For instance, if you are borrowing a friend, relative, or anyone else’s car where you are not a registered owner on the title, you may want to look into getting short term car insurance. Rental car companies offer temporary coverage on their cars but it may not be enough to cover you entirely.

Depending on how long you plan to rent the vehicle, it might make sense to buy a temporary policy. Even those who rent a moving van or are helping a friend move with a vehicle that isn’t their own might consider getting such a policy.

Some drivers who are not on the road very often but want to avoid any gaps in their automobile coverage will also purchase a short term policy to remain in compliance with local and federal laws. A lapse of more than thirty days can have a detrimental effect on your ability to get new coverage at lower rates.

Finding Cheap Short Term Insurance

If you’re seeking out cheap car insurance in NC, then you have some very simple and affordable options to consider.

For starters you need to decide how long your temporary policy will last. The most common short term policy lasts for about a full week, but you can buy them for as little as a few days to as many as 28 or more. It’s helpful to know how long you need short term coverage before you start shopping around for rates.

Another thing to consider is cost. Yes it’s always a good idea to get the lowest rates, but much like with normal auto insurance policies, the cheapest rates may not always get you the best coverage. So it’s important to closely examine what you are getting for that low cost policy and be sure that you are well-covered in the event you need to use it.

Remember, insurance is supposed to protect you in case of an accident or emergency. If you try to cut corners with costs, you may end up paying far more than you might expect in the long run. That means looking into the extent of coverage and the limits of the policy.

You will definitely want to ensure you’re covered in the event of collision with another motorist as well as any inanimate objects. Check whether or not you’ve got protection in case of theft, vandalism, or even inclement extreme weather.

Not all policies include all of these features and the worst time to find out a certain peril is not included is when it’s happened to you already. Some companies will protect you while you drive another person’s vehicle and/or a rental car on the same policy. You don’t need separate forms of coverage for each.

Once you know what you need and how long you need it, you can start searching online for short term coverage brokers and all you need to get a quote is your zip code in most instances.
