For the eighth time this week, you have sunk an hour into looking at new trucks online. You’ve read reviews, watched YouTube videos of various trucks in action and have perused the websites of your local car dealerships. It’s all you can think about. Every morning when you turn the key in your old clunker, and listen to the labouring starter engine wheezing itself to life, all you can imagine is being in a newer truck.
Just do it. A lot of people assume that upgrading their car is going to be this lengthy, costly process, but it’s as easy as it is satisfying. If you’re still on the fence about finally making the decision, here are five compelling reasons to stop hemming and hawing, and start revving and roaring.
1) It’s Not Hard, or Expensive to Get a New Truck These Days
This is number one, with a bullet. Too many people still think about getting a truck the old fashioned way – with a sizeable down payment and a long-term commitment. But it’s not like that anymore; you can easily get a deal on a luxury SUV lease or truck lease, allowing you to scratch the down payment, pay a lower monthly rate and commit for only a couple years.
There are also “car subscriptions” now, a fairly new concept that allows you to basically lease cars or trucks on a month-to-month basis. You sign up for the service, pick a vehicle and plan, and then you can swap, renew or cancel monthly. It’s inexpensive and flexible – perfect for if you’re on the fence about getting a new truck.
2) A New Truck Can Seriously Boost Confidence
Your truck says a lot about you. If you are driving a beat up old clunker, chances are you get a small flush of embarrassment when you drive by people, especially at work. Like it or not, a new vehicle can be aneffective (albeit superficial) way of boosting your confidence.
3) Whatever You Get Will Likely Be Safer and More Advanced
Vehicles have come a long way, even in the past few years. Even if you go with a used truck, chances are that it is safer, more technologically advanced and “smarter” than your existing vehicle. Aside from the scores of new safety features that have become standard on many automobiles in the last few years, there have also been major improvements made in connectivity, navigation and climate control.
In short: vehicles have become exponentially better recently. There’s no guarantee that the rate of improvement will remain steady though, so now is probably the absolute best time to get a new truck.
4) You Gain Nothing by Waiting
Finally, let’s flip the question around: why would you not get a new truck now? The longer you wait, the less value your existing car will net at trade-in. Twiddling your thumbs won’t get you a better deal – it will only forestall the inevitable.
So what are you waiting for? Get a new truck you can be proud of.
