Which are The Best After Market Fog Lights

If you’re looking to brighten up your car then aftermarket fog lights can be a good pick.  Here’s a quick look at some of the best fog lights for people who drive in difficult conditions. These fog lights are a great addition to any jeep, SUV or truck.

Fog lights are important if you do a lot of driving in difficult conditions. Fog can shorten visibility to just a few feet, and well below standard braking distances. This means that you must drive more carefully than normal, give yourself more space between your vehicle and the one in front, and be particularly attentive to potential hazards. Good fog lights will help you to see a little further ahead, but you still need to be extra mindful of your surroundings and remember that even if you see yourself as being a good driver, the others around you may not be, and that’s where things can start to go wrong.

Warn W350F Halogen Lights

These fog lights are great for trucks, SUVs and Jeeps. They are quite small – only 3.5 inches in diameter, and have a height of 4.5 inches, so they will fit into almost any bumper. They are easy to mount, and they can be operated wirelessly too. The instructions are really easy to follow, so they’re suitable for DIY installation.

KC HiLiTES Gravity G4 Fog Lights

These LED fog lights are ideal for off-road use. They’re incredibly bright (866 lumens per light), and they are durable too. They’re street-legal, which is unusual for this type of light, and they come with a universal mounting system, so they can be used on almost any SUV or Truck. The manufacturer makes a similar set of model-specific light for Toyotas, Scions, Jeeps, and Lexus models.  These off-road lights are high quality and ideal for difficult driving conditions.

Sylvania ZEO Fog Lights

The Sylvania 35074 fog light kit is a wide beam kit that is made using street-legal LEDs. Sylvania are a trusted name in motoring, and these lights are really easy to use and are perfect for people want something that will mount onto any vehicle. The kit offers the flexibility of a ‘generic’ with the reliability that can only come from buying from a trusted brand.

Astra Depot 55W Fog Projector Lights

These lights are incredibly affordable and are very compact. They have glass lenses that are quite rugged and will be more likely than plastic to survive damage from rocks or debris. They are small and can therefore be mounted easily in places where mounting space is restricted.

JW Speaker LED Fog Lights

These are intended specifically for use on ’07 – ’13 Jeep Wranglers, and they are more expensive than other models, but if you have the right vehicle they are well worth the money. They are very bright and incredibly rugged, and they are also easy to mount.

 Rigid Industries D-Series Flood Lights

These 20 degree flood lights are aimed at off-road enthusiasts, and they have been extensively tested. If you’re looking for some super-rugged lights that will withstand the kind of abuse you’d get on a construction site or in some other harsh environment, then these are the perfect choice.

Spec-D Fog Lights

These fog lights have a color-changing outer ring, that is ideal for those who like to add a touch of custom color to their vehicle. The ring can be set to one of seven different colors, to match or contrast your exterior. Be warned that this may not be street legal, but it’s OK for off-road use or track use.

Rugged Ridge LED Fog Lights

These three-inch square led fog lights are more like driving lights than fog lights, but they’re a good addition to any off-road kit. They are actually found in a lot of roof rack kits. They are compact, low energy, and durable, and come with a simple to set up mounting system.

Blazer Baja Kit Light

This is an ultra-low-cost lighting solution for trucks. At just $24, these are incredibly affordable, but they aren’t all that bright. If you’re just looking for a little bit of a boost for those drizzly days, then these are a nice solution. They are not suitable for driving in environments where the visibility is very poor, however, so you may want to spend a little more if that is a common occurrence.

Pentair Yellow Fog Lights

Yellow fog lights are becoming increasingly popular as people rebel against boring old clear lenses. This particular kit is aimed at Honda Civics, but there are other kits for other makes and models. The kit includes everything you need to install the lights and is priced quite affordably at just $79.

Choosing Between Driving Lights and Fog Lights

One area where a lot of motorists get caught out is choosing between driving lights and fog lights.  Driving lights are lights that are designed to be used with high-beam headlights, to help you spot objects that are in the distance. They are incredibly bright, and they can be distracting to any oncoming traffic. They are not intended to be used for day to day driving on busy roads – they are for seeing a long way down the road, and also to the side of the road. They are only really for use when you are driving on remote roads, or unlit highways, where visibility is poor. If you try to use driving lights as fog lights, then you will find that they are quite ineffective.

Fog lights, on the other hand, are far less bright. They produce a shorter, wider beam of light that will cut through fog and snow and illuminate the ground in front of the vehicle. They are not intended for use as day to day driving lights. They do not have the same amount of reach. Fog will usually settle about two feet off the ground, so it is recommended that fog lights are mounted at a height of 18 inches above the ground, so that they will be positioned under the fog.
